Round 5

'Cats Give T.O. Early Scare, But Eagles Soar To Victory in "The Hammer"

This week was crunch time for the Wildcats as they tried to keep their finals hopes alive taking on the TO Eagles at Mohawk Park.
Taking on last years undefeated premiers things were always going to be tough. For the first time this year the 'Cats took to the field with a full squad of 22, and also for the first time this year were ready to play at the first bounce. The entire first quarter was played hard and fast, with the 'Cats scoring the first goal. by quarter time the Wildcats managed to get themselves in front, but were robbed of a good lesd due to a goal on the siren.
The second quarter was played out similar to the first. Lawson, Hill, Nolan all worked well out of the centre, while an injured Plugger, Eben and “Marilyn” worked the ball hard out of defence, leaving the Eagles truly stunned. Crouchy was presenting well across the half forward line and managed to sneak in a few goals, but meanwhile the 'Cats failed to capatilise on some easy shots at goal resulting in a close contest. Going into half time the Eagles received a very soft free kick to put the scores level at the major break.
In the 3rd term things started to turn the corner. The Wildcats were no longer playing in front, and the defence seemed to fall apart thanks to some great work in front of goal by the Eagles Marshy. With the first 2 goals going the way of TO, the Wildcats seemed to drop their heads. The run was no longer there, and it seemed almost impossible to return the ball out of the defensive fifty by the end of the final quarter.
The final score line shows that the Wildcats have a lot of work to do in order to keep it up with the best of them, but then again, they showed a lot of promise in the first half proving that it is entirely possible!
This week the Wildcats have another game at home before hitting the road, taking on the Rebels. With it still being mathematically possible to make the finals this will be a must win game. A loss will make it impossible to make the top 5. Lets all get down and support the boys for this massive game at Mohawk park!!
